Back in the olden days shaving was done with stone razors. Mustache back in the olden days was usually grown by higher class to represent your class. The lower class and younger men mustache would be less elaborate mustache you start off with small mustache and make your way to make bushier/ thicker until lit would become a beard. The mustache would also be grown by men in the military.
